Hamid Karzai, the former Afghan president, has urged all the parties to end the war after the Afghan government on Saturday announced the unilateral ceasefire with the Taliban had come to an end.

Karzai, who served two terms as the president of the war-torn country, said the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan has been ‘imposed’ by ‘foreign forces’, and it has taken heavy toll on the lives of ordinary people in the country.

He urged all parties involved in the war to understand schemes and conspiracies of foreigners, who he said only wanted to create divisions and kill the people.  Batting for peace and reconciliation process, Karzai called on all the parties to abstain from war and give peace a chance.

Karzai, who fell out with the U.S. at the end of his second term, has been a strong critic of America’s policy in Afghanistan, claiming that the country had “destroyed” Afghanistan.

Speaking at a conference in New Delhi earlier this year, Karzai said America’s Afghanistan policy has been a complete failure, which has given rise to dreaded militant groups like ISIS. “It is up to the United States and Pakistan to explain the rise of ISIS,” he said.  

President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday announced that ceasefire with the Taliban had come to an end and Afghan military forces are allowed to resume their operations against the group.
